Flavy

Privacy policy

Last updated: 16 October 2026

Draft. This policy is being reviewed and is not final yet.

Flavy is an app for planning meals, keeping recipes and sharing a shopping list with the people you cook with. This policy explains which personal data the app and this website process, why, and what rights you have.

1. Who is responsible

The controller under the GDPR is:
[Full name or company]
[Street and number]
[Postcode, city, country]
Email: [privacy email]

[If a data protection officer is appointed, add their contact details here; otherwise remove this sentence.]

2. What we process and why

Your account

When you sign up we process your email address, a password (stored only as a hash), your display name and avatar choice. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive an account identifier and the email address the provider shares with us. We need this data to provide the app (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Without it you cannot use Flavy.

Your household and its content

Flavy stores what you and your household add: recipes, recipe covers, favourites, the meal plan, the shopping list, household membership and roles, invites, dietary notes you enter for members, and the household activity feed. Members of your household can see shared content. This is necessary to provide the app (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Dietary notes can reveal health information or beliefs; enter them only if you want your household to see them, and only with the consent of the person concerned (Art. 9(2)(a) GDPR). Data is also kept on your device so the app works offline, and is synchronised when you are online.

Recipe import

When you import a recipe from a web link, our server downloads that page. When you import from a photo, the text is recognised on your device; the photo itself is not uploaded. The page or recognised text is then sent to an AI model hosted by Replicate to turn it into a structured recipe. We do this because you asked for it (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).

Watercolor covers (“Paint it”)

When you ask Flavy to paint a cover, the recipe’s title, description, ingredients and steps are sent to AI models hosted by Replicate: one checks that it is a recipe and writes a short visual description, a second paints the image. The finished image is stored in our database. Recipe text is removed from the job once it is finished; only a fingerprint is kept to avoid charging you twice. Unused images are deleted after 30 days. We count your free and used images. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.

Usage analytics (only with your consent)

If you allow it, the app sends usage events to PostHog, for example “meal planned” or “shopping item checked”, with technical details such as the app version, the device type, your user ID and your household ID. We never send recipe titles, ingredients, search terms, household names or other text you write. We use this to understand which features help households and where the app falls short. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, § 25(1) TDDDG). Nothing is sent until you agree, and you can withdraw your consent at any time in the app under Settings → Privacy. When you delete your account we also ask PostHog to delete your analytics data.

Crash and error reports

When the app crashes or an error occurs, a technical report is sent to Sentry: the error, the app and operating-system version, the device model and your user ID. This lets us find and fix faults. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in a reliable app (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Reports are kept for [retention period].

Emails

We send emails that belong to your account, such as confirming your address or resetting your password, through [email provider]. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR. We do not send newsletters.

This website

When you visit flavy.io, our host Vercel processes your IP address, the requested page, time and browser details in server logs to deliver the site and keep it secure (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). To count visits we use Vercel Web Analytics. It sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device; visits are counted without a lasting identifier, and invite codes are removed from the address before anything is sent. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Your language choice is saved only in your browser. Invite pages show the invite code from the link in your browser only.

3. Who receives data

We use these service providers. They process data on our behalf under a data processing agreement.

4. How long we keep data

5. Your rights

You have the right to access your data (Art. 15), to correct it (Art. 16), to have it deleted (Art. 17), to restrict processing (Art. 18), to data portability (Art. 20) and to object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21 GDPR). You can withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future.

In the app, Profile → Data & support lets you export your data and delete your account. For anything else, email us at the address above.

You can also complain to a data protection supervisory authority, for example the one where you live or [the authority responsible for the controller].

6. Automated decisions

Flavy does not make decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects based solely on automated processing.

7. Changes

We update this policy when the app or the law changes. The date at the top shows the latest version.
